Crownpoint, NM - Navajo Technical University’s Land Grant office will be hosting a Pathways training event for college students interested in pursuing a summer internship with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Feb. 5-6, 2020. The event will be held at NTU’s Wellness Center and will present job readiness activities such as mock interviews, resume writing workshop, and application reviews conducted by USDA representatives. Those interested in the paid internships will also have the opportunity to meet with a USDA representative and submit an application.

“We want this event to help students prepare for the professional workforce. If selected, the Pathways program internships will allow students to gain hands-on work experience while completing an internship with the federal government, all while going to school,” said Shawna Begay, Land Grant Assistant as she explained the benefits of the two-day training. “Selected students will also have the opportunity to gain important professional work skills and network with government workers during their internship.”

The event is open to the public and will begin on Wednesday Feb. 5 at 9 am with an overview of the program, a resume workshop, and mock interviews. The workshops will teach students how to create a resume according to preferences of federal agencies while also providing helpful tips when interviewing for a federal position. On Feb. 6, participants will then have the chance to submit an application to apply for Pathways summer internship positions. The Pathways program internships can lead to full-time employment for students upon graduation.

The Pathways Training event will require participants to bring three copies of unofficial transcripts, an updated resume, and a letter of enrollment provided by their university or college they are currently attending. The paid internship is open to all majors, but will include specific opportunities for students pursuing degrees in agricultural, technology, math, environmental science, management, business, and other fields. At the event, college students will be able to submit federal employment applications for announced entry level positions and to recruit minority students for these positions.

To learn more about the event or how to participate, please contact Shawna Begay at [email protected] or call NTU Land Grant Office at (505) 387-7506.
